You can build your own MortiSafe from parts. Before you start

You will need to buy these parts. You'll need the following tools:

  • A flat bladed screwdriver, with a head less than 3.5mm (about 1/8 inch) across
  • A screwdriver suitable for unscrewing the panel on the back of the safe's door (mine uses a cross-head screwdriver)
  • Something to cut wire (eg scissors)
  • Something to clean the insulation off the end of a wire

How to build, quick summary

There may look like a lot of steps to building the MortiSafe but that's only because it's in a lot of detail. The basic steps to it are:

  • Cut the cable of your power adaptor and connect it to the MortiRemote
  • Cut a wire in your digital safe and connect it to the MortiRemote
  • Plug the MortiThingy into your PC
  • Download some software
  • Use it

Uninstalling the MortiSafe

If you should want to, you can very easily turn the MortiSafe back into a normal digital safe just by unscrewing some wires:

  • Open the safe, and unscrew the panel on the back of the door
  • Identify the screw terminal block which has two wires going to the MortiReceiver and two going to the safe
  • Unscrew the wires going to the MortiReceiver
  • Unscrew one of the wires going to the safe
  • Screw that wire back in so that both of the wires going to the safe are connected together

The safe is now restored to normal.
